Event photography is a wonderful experience for a photographer. Parties, corporate events, conferences, and other event photography all seem to have a common thread; everyone wants to have a good time! Because of this it is much easier to get natural smiles and gesturing from subjects. The question that we usually receive when we present this idea is, "If it is that easy, why would I need a professional photographer, couldn't I just give an intern an automatic camera and let him/her go at it?" |

The answer lies in the fact that a professional photographer has some things most companies and event sponsors do not; professional photography equipment and the ability to use it properly.

What does all that mean? Look at the photo at the left. This room spells trouble for any automatic camera or novice photographer. A low light situation that may require a zoom lens (to catch the speaker up close) of 150+mm, further complicated by the constant movement of the speaker and an aperture setting that must be small enough to get a depth of field to show audience involvement. | These illustrations show what the photo looks like at full resolution. This photo is suited for a promotional poster or other print media. These are the things that only professional grade equipment and training can produce.
Consider the background scenery, the selective focus, and the moment that the action was stopped in the pictures on this page. High speed lenses, digital technology, and the professional photographer's eye were all needed to create these memorable event photos.
